is speed just another name for meth? or is it something different?

Slang names may be a little different in Australia, but in the US speed can mean either meth or amphetamine. Powder or crystals are almost certainly meth, at least in the states, because the key ingredient to make amphetamine was banned a few years back. Someone stated methamphetamine hcl is hydroscopic, it is actually amphetamine hcl which this is true of. That's why amphetamine is almost always found as the sulfate.

The reason why you are seeing these strange colours when you go to buy a bag of speed is due to one of the following:

It isnt Amphetamine; its either another chemical (maybe inactive) or a chemical chemically similar to Amphetamine (like said above).
Or
Amphetamine or Methamphetamine is usually made in someones bath using sub par lab tools and ingredients, it is not uncommon to buy speed that has other bits and pieces left behind in the synthesis. E.g. Red (Red Phosphorous left over).

Speed is most common forms of amps, then u got meth which is also called ice.

I live in meth county usa. Speed to me is a generalized term, If someone asked me around here if I wanted to do speed it could be one of a few things.

1-Bathtub crank. Usually made by mexicans in their bathtub, and consists of a brownish color. Snorted it will hurt like hell, and smoked will burn dirty.

2-Anhydrous. A form of speed that is made with the fertilizer anhydrous. In my area this is the most common. It is normally a dirty white color and Burns dirty when smoked. It also hurts like hell to snort. B/c anhydrous is made mostly by amatuers in the woods somewhere, it is left with alot of acid in it. Making it a more visual rush than other speed.

3-Crystal Meth. Crystal meth is probably to me the best of all the speeds. It produces a cleaner less trippy rush. It burns clear in a bulb and smokes for a long time. It also only burns slightly when snorted. Good crystal meth should look like a clear piece of glass or glass shards.

4- Red phosphorus. This is a little bit different speed b/c it is made with a slow wet cook instead of a short dry cook. Red phosphorus is commonly found on the back of a matchbook. A dirty burning, nose stinging speed. The high is good. It differs from pink to dark red.

***Keep in mind, with meth you never know what EXACTLY was cooked into it. Drano, starter fluid and the like are constantly used in street drugs to be able to reach the high demand with limited funds, and lack of time.***

This is all my opinion of course. I was addicted bad and as of this month haven't touched the shit for a whole YEAR. I'm sure there's more types around, but I'm sure these are the norm for the typical american community.
My reccomendation is to not try it if you never have. It keeps things much simpler that way.
