    Jamaica: Heaven or Hell?

For a goofy, white American kid who looks like he couldnt hurt a fly but LOVES to smoke pot and chill out and loves reggae and the whole Rastafarian way of life is Jamaica a good place?

I've heard, yeah the weed is good, but they're in some major economic troubles and are pretty poor and you can get seriously fucked up (mugged, ripped off or worse) pretty easily especially if you look like an American with money. Sure its no Amsterdam, but how does it compare...whats it like?

Clue me in oh wise cannabisboard

i just got back in may, , no a white kid, but i saw plenty of white kids there, asd long as you stay on the path where your meant to go you will have no problem finding stuff,, at the same time i bought really good smoke, and even better hash, WOW, IMO heaven all the way,

    i've heard different things.
the fact that you acknowledge you're a white kid (from the suburbs?) is a good sign.
you stay "on the path", you'll be fine.
i know a dred-locked buddy of mine (anglo) nearly got into some deep shit; something about being poor and dred'd 'cause you have too and seeing an american anglo w/ dred's seems to get some folks pissed off there.
it's like white homies from suburbia thinkin' they're hard/ghetto. when you LIVE in the ghetto cause you have to and you're hard cause you have to be to survive, it pisses you off seeing someone with better circumstances playing like they know/are from the street.

from what i gather (and i've found this to be true in places other than jamaica), as long as you're respectful and aware, you should have a great time. tip the locals well when you go out to eat/drink, and be humble.

i definately didn't mean to imply that you put on a front. the fact that you're intelligent enough to ask the question speaks well for you.

gotta disagree with you. you can tell a street person, kinda sense it. im white and dreadlocked but i aint from no suburb. matter fact theres this jamaican dude that lives round my way. he seen my one day skateboarding, i got the locks with the big beard and he started pointin to me like sayin "yea thats right" without sayin it. now he says whats up to me all the time. so i dont think they get pissed off, i think they dig it. your friend probably did some other shit to piss em off.

not so much pissed off anyone, more coming across some people who were pissed off. the whole peaceful rasta is a bit of a myth in my experience. it's called Trenchtown cause of the sewer filled trences running thru the 'hood; you can't come from somewhere like that and not be hard.
i hear you about knowing when someone is "real" and not a poser. i'm not sure where you're from, but i doubt if you were pullin' ollies on your skate in t-town you'd get the same reception. that isn't a dis, it's just my observation.
and a question: do your dreds and beard represent your commitment to Jah (see Leviticus 21:5), your solidarity with black people rebelling against babylon (the world of the white man according to rastas), or as a general statement against the "establishment"?
