    lights and fishtank

I have this fishtank and under it are a few sockets for lamps, would it be wise to put a few Compact Fluoros there and let them shine the botom of the plant through the glass or should I just cover the bottom with foil ? I 'll be putting a few floros over the plants too.

I got one suggestion...Dont do it. Dont use the aquarium...Its pointless

For one, glass "eats" useable light. Meaning any light shining through the glass has been filtered and deflected in different directions thus the plants really cant use it..(believe it or not)

Second, the aquarium is an aquarium, not a grow box..Its just not gonna work out too well for ya growing in that man. The tin foil is gonna burn your plants and deflect light away from your plants instead of reflecting it towards them. The glass is gonna deplete usable light. The temperatures are gonna get very hot due to poor ventilation. And last but not least, its going to be pretty difficult to keep the humidity levels down. Thus your plants arent going to grow very well in a sweltering cube of moist air with hot spotted lights...

What you SHOULD do, is actually MAKE a grow box out of wood. Or even use a large cardboard box. You need some ventilation or the plants will sufficate. You shouldnt use tin foil because it just doesnt work good. Paint the inside of your growbox flat white or look into purchasing some Mylar...

I'm using cf's, and they aren't very hot, are they still gonna burn my plants if I'll be using foil ? If I'll put a few PC coolers inside and make holes in the roof, would it be enought ventilation ?

I suppose it might work if you ventilate it with a couple PC fans...But you cant just ventilate with a few holes. You have to put one sucking air IN and one blowing the air OUT..So make a lid that can hold the fans in at the top then put one of the fans pointing in and the other pointing out.

The tin foil will deflect any light and create hotspots..Which is bad for your plants. Use Mylar.
