john lennon or jimi hendrix
given time, hendrix prolly could have COMPLETELY changed the way guitar is played today, if he had lived longer, done more crazy and wild shit to influence more. but since the beatles were well, the beatles, they could have made even more music that would influence today's industry.
just something to think about - if the beatles made one more album with the whole crew, what do you think music would sound like today?

jesus dude thats a great question!!!
i have no idea it would be different though!
but i have to agree i think hendrix would have changed guitar playing so so much !
i think musically hendrix would have changed the way music was more than anyone else!
but i really really think lennon could have changed the world man ! he really was starting to do something then he got shot!
i think Cobain could have changed a lot of things for kids if he had the will power to get over his addiction. i even think he could have set a few things straight with the music industry but the drugs would have always been a problem for him.

haha jerry garcia didn't exacly die young, but if he was still around, then i bet the jam scene would be even bigger. actually, with his death the grateful dead blew up a lot, so whatever... he was just so amazing i had to bring him up in the music legends thread.
actually i would like to mention brad nowell of sublime as well. sublime was about to release their third album when he died (of a heroin overdose). brad had gotten clean and went partying after a show and went a little overboard. he had every intention of continuing making music for a long long time, and i bet they would have put out some monumental albums even today. sublime was so good.

What about Jim Morrison or Janis Joplin?
I would have to say Hendrix because he was such an innovater. Ever hear about the first time Eric Clapton heard him play. It was long after Clapton had been established as a "guitar god" when he saw Jimi in a little club in London. The next day he sent his manager to find Jimi so he could teach Clapton some new things.
Lennon was great but I think he could have gone on to do so much more if the Beatles stayed together. The team of Lennon-McCartney was a true example of the total being more than just the sum of the parts.
Holly and Marley were both great but I don't see them as really continuing to progress. They might have been the old masters of their genres but not out on the cutting edge.
Never really thought that much of Cobain. I really think he would have just faded out if he fed himself a shotgun shell.
