an easy way is to veg ya plant up to half the height of ya room not over as the flowering will double it in size

Well, if your growing inside, you can control the size of plants, but remember that they double in hight when put into flower, some sativa can even tripple....
Bear that in mind.
Try and get something that is at least 2 foot high.

Flowering them early...
If you have 5 feet of space... minus 2.5 feet for the light an the container...
that leaves you 2.5 feet to grow .... so as BUSTER said ...flower when the plant is about 12 inches tall..
when she is done she will be about 24-36 inches tall....
and now you know....
you can also tie her diwn and train her... or keep them small and just grow more plants
