your mix is still good, dump it let it dry then mixit.Your buddy may have been thinking big pot small plant, small plant can't absorb all the water flushing the heavy soil to the bottom of the pot,the perlite and vermi will work it's way upleaving mud in the bottom, this is caused from the plant not being able to absorb all the water fast enough leaving a flood in the bottom of your pot, more then likely cause root rot

You could try Supersoil, pre-mixed with most of those elements you mixed separately, and add perlite. It's shown me good drainage and dries out evenly, though as expected, slower toward the bottom of the containers.

I don't know if it's more cost effective, but it's hassle-free and has enough nutrients for 3 weeks of growth.

that Supersoil potting soil has nutrients mixed into it, that "lasts for 90 days", according to the Supersoil website,... normally, I would steer clear of that, (same reason most growers badmouth MiracleGro soil) ... but, an experienced grower friend of mine swears by it .. ??? ... :smokin:

Yes, I may be confusing my terms: I believe I read that young plants don't need to be fertilized for 3 weeks (or a few sets of leaves)...and you're right, that SuperSoil has nutrients for 90 days.

Still, it hasn't done me wrong (for any type of potted plant), inasmuch as I'm a first time cannabis grower. I can appreciate those who want a precise mix. After growing, though, and seeing amazing results from other members here, I've come to realize that it's not as much of a science but an art.

...plus, I never trusted that Supersoil had enough nutrients to sustain the plants growth rate, but instead has enough maybe for potted patio or houseplants...that's why I added (ironically you mention) Miracle Grow 5-50-5 and Peters 20-20-20...different topic for a differnt thread I guess.
