Hey Folks....
I am new to growing, but not smoking. I have not smoked in 14 years because of my job, but I am all signed up to retire on June 1, 2006. And, I cannot wait.
Here is my plan, and please do not be shy offering suggestions. First of all, I am going to purchase seeds from seedboutique.com. I am going to try White Widow first. This is not for cash, this is for moi! So, based on what I have read (which has been a great deal) over the past two weeks, I think I am making a good choice. I have read that Indica is a real good choice for indoor growing.
My plan is to start off with 22 quart food service containers, brand new. I am going to use a sterilized potting soil, and not M-Grow, as I have read that produces results that are not what we are looking for. I intend to add about 1-2 inches of lava rock in the bottom of each container to facilitate draining. I will, of course, drill at minimum 6 holes in the bottom of each container.
As for my area, I have a pretty large house, but I do not want a 60 plant grow going on. I am going to use a bathroom, (I have 4) that nobody ever uses. I plan on using the tub for my grow area. So, by my calculations that should be around ~8 square feet. I also plan on lining the inside walls of the tub enclosure with particle board, covered with Mylar. I am guessing I can plant ~8 plants in that area ??????????
For lighting (and this is what has confused me the most). I am planning on a Gro Lux Rapid Start (red light) for seedlings until I want to flower, and then yank the fluorescent out, and replace with a 430 Watt Son Agro HPS Plant Grow Light. Is this too much ?
For ventilation I have a ceiling fan that I am going to replace with one that moves 410 cfm of air, and it is already ducted to an outside vent. That is not a big deal. I am also going to buy a Sears dehumidifier to control my humidity. As for climate I have central air/heat.
The CO2 generation thing is something I have really been researching, and it seems that is a big bonus in growing. But, it seems bulky, and somewhat a pain in the ass.
I have all my notes ready on the use of nutes, and to introduce slowly, etc. But, I refuse to use bat shit, or anything that closely resembles it to grow my plants.......lol
I know to use distilled water, and I have an RO system on my kitchen sink, so I am good to go. All I need to do is let warm up to room temp from the day before.
All you pros bust my balls, I want to start off with the best I can grow and improve from there. And, as I learn, I will be more than happy to share. I used to hack Direkt TV cards, and mod a site, I know those who read learn the most. And, when they ask questions, they can ask specific questions that someone can answer versus "hey, how do I grow some budā??s?"

Hey Folks....
I tried to do as much research before I asked any dumbass questions as I know that gets annoying.......lol
Also, thanks for the congrats on the retirement. I can finally light up and do what I really enjoy. I figure I can grow 1-3 crops per year and have a stash for myself. Thats all I am after anyways. Plus, I will be doing a fair amount of traveling during the summer months to competition BBQ's anyways.
I'm sure I will be in and out checkin on my methods of doing things as I go, but I do believe that I have general idea. Also, I throughly enjoy reading and just surfing around reading how others do it. No sense reinventing the wheel is my philosophy.
May everyone enjoy their Easter Weekend, and if traveling, be safe.
bonger
P.S. I have a digi cam, and will post progress of things as I go in case anyone wants to check it out or offer suggestions. If you cannot smoke it or eat it, why grow it ?

Hey Folks....
Well bongerstonerd00d,
I glad you have done your research it helps to keep learning to master the game. CO2 is bulky but the results are outstanding. Your light hood should be air cooled hosed to your fan to control the climate in that room. If smell is not a problem fine but you may need another fan. Eight plants under a 430 depending on the yeild you desire you may want look at a 1000 watter from ebay.
You really need to open your mind about the bat shit thing. Do your own research. My preferred fertilizer is foxfarm. For flowering it is earthworm castings, bat and seabird guano, rock phosphate, sulfate of potash magnesia. When you play this game it's not what you think you know but what you can prove. If you know a product on the market that is better tell me with no delay.

Hey Folks....
I am going to order some guano and earth worm castings as well. I am planning on using (per 1 cu.ft.) of soil a mix of 50% sterilized potting soil (not M-Grow), 30% Worm Castings, and 20% of Guano. Does that sound like a good mix, or is it too heavy on the guano and will be too much Nitrogen in the soil ?
Also was reading about the Growzila lights, I may go that route after the flourscents have finished the vegatative stage for me.
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Hey Folks....
Here is what I have decided.
I plan on using a 4 bulb with flourscent with cool-whites for my plants after seed germination. Rockwool will be used to grow the seedlings in.
Then I plan to transfer the smaller rockwool container to a larger one for more growth, and finally to the Rockwool strip for final growth. I will be using hydroponics, not soil. Seems you have better control over the conditions, and exactly what your plant gets, and when. I will soak my cubes to prepare before I seed or transplant to them. I understand seedlings need a pH of about 5.5.
Next, for flowering I will use a 400 Watt MH light for the flowering stage. I plan on installing adequate ventilation, and also installing a dehumidifier in order to control RH. Also will be using a combo pH, TDS monitor to check those conditions as well.
After flowering I will switch lights and put a HPS in there to finish the grow. This may or may not be the best, and I am somewhat confused on this part, so all suggestions are welcome.
I am going to purchase a CO2 system with automatic control sensor that keeps it from injecting during dark periods, and monitors the level as well and injects as needed to maintain the 1500 PPM I am looking to maintain.
Lights and exhaust will of course all be on timers and it will just be a matter of me documenting the data and tweaking it out to optimize the grow. I am also buying one of the monitors that checks the data 24 hours per day and then you can download into Excel on your PC to graph what is exactly happening and when. That should provide very good information.
So, when all said and done I figure around 2K to have exactly what I need, and I am off to growing myself bud for many years to come I certainly hope.
Peace all,
