you shouldnt prune at all, let them die off themselves.
All leaves that arnt dead are need to produce energy to make the bud... DO NOT PRUNE.

If there are leaves at the bottom of the plant with no access to light, it means that they arn't making any energy. I don't get it. I'm not nit picking man i'm just saying I read around alot and alot of people prune. Why would you leave leaves that arn't doing their job.

yea im not an expert but can't you also prune for higher yields? splitting the stem so two nodes grow back?

yepper, i make each plant a bush, keeps them short, makes extra grow tips , you can keep light closer to ALL of them this way, more light penatration = more yield

ya, I topped all mine and then I lolly poped them. So each plant has 4 main cola's and everything below that is cut off. So the plant is shaped like a lollypop. It worked well. But I'm threw topping. It seems like they take longer and the yield isn't that different from a single cola plant. We'll see when I harvest. I just don't want to veg for that long anymore. It doesn't seem worth it. Plus I topped all but 2 and those 2 are looking the best.
So it's all experience and personal preferance.

Dont cut the leaves off, let them die off.
If there not getting light, then yes, they are not making energy, but dont shock the plant by cutting loads off, let them die off.
Topping the plant if differnt to cutting off leaves, topping the plant is so you can get 2 main colas or even more...

leaves store energy as well as produce it so the leaves that don't get light still have an important purpose. i don't think it's a good idea to cut leaves. i used to grow scrog style so i topped a plant as much as 50-75 times throught it's life. what i did not do was cut fan leaves of unecessarily. i would cut very few leaves above the screen to make sure all budsites got equal light. i would never cut anything below the screen. 1 grow i cut lots of fan leaves and removed all growth under the screen. the result was buds that were alot leafier and less dense than usual. i am a firm believer in not cutting anymore than you absolutely need to since that grow!
