    Heat

    Hi,

I have just finished setting up my grow room, complete with lighting. I began monitoring temperatures last night. The room stays a pretty constant 75 (50% humid.) unlit, but once the light was on a couple of hours, it raised to 80. I don't know what it will be like once its on 18 hours! Any suggestions to lower the heat that I haven't thought of?

    Background:

    10 X 10 X 8 carpeted, top floor spare bedroom.

    400W MH light

White 6' bookcases 4 feet apart, with the light hanging on chains from a 2X4 above.

Oscillating fan with ionizer running on high.

Black plastic covering window (and I must say proudly, from outside, there is no light escaping at all.)

Air conditioning set to 76, but the thermostat is outside of the room. Any cooler than that would make the rest of the top floor too cold for comfort.

Any suggestions would be super! Thanks,

Air cooled hood for the light

Portable AC in the room with the plants.

Or use the heat and add CO² to your grow, just don't let the temperature reach past the 92f mark.

You also can open the vent in the room wide open and close down and/or shut the vents in the rest of the house to try to balance it out.

Since heat rises and the earth stays cool, top floor rooms are harder to cool than bottom floors and a basement is easiest to keep cool, if you've got a lower room to move it to.

depending on which part of the country you are in? build a box that is acoustically deadened around your window. that way you can leave the window open about four inches. go to grainger, pick up a six inch blower motor, cheap one is about forty bucks, cfm is 180. use that to supply fresh air into your room. will cool your room no problem. to make it more efficent you can add an exhaust fan as well. just make sure you put something on the exhaust side for odor control.
