    keeping clones is stasis? anyone?

ive read that you can keep clones in stasis, in a refrigerator i guess, and that they be usable for up to 8 weeks after you cut them. anybody heard of this? the article wasnt very specific at all and didnt explain how you would go about doing it. if anyone knows how to do this successfully, could you share some info on it? i would appreciate it. thanks for any help

I remember reading a couple of months ago a guy that did just this...

He said (if I'm not mistaken) that he would keep clones in the fridge for up to 4 weeks... then, just use them as usual.

I'm wondering about that... I would guess it should be filtered water... refrigerator, not freezer.... and, how would you go about dealing with the light every time you open the door?
    ....

Other than that... I would guess it would work...

I can't induce true "stasis" -- essentially putting them in a vital coma -- but I can encourage clones to grow roots but not height by keeping them in a tiny container, limiting the nutes, and limiting the light they get. A low watt flouro almost touching the tops seems to do the trick. I can keep them under 12" for a couple months or more -- really sllloooowwww growth. I suspect it's the container and light, because as soon as I replant them in big containers and put them under the MH light they take off like bottle rockets. Any signs of stress are gone in about a week.

Cool temperatures 55-58 deg will not kill the plant but slow the growth. As long as it gets some light to process chlorophyll then it will survive. Yes you can hold clones for months that way. You still need to care for them but they should make it just fine.

I assume that is what you are asking for.

They still need roots, light and water even if the cool temperature retards the growth cycle they still need light, water and roots before you try to hold them.

I am going with rodekyll on this one that is how I slow mine when they are not needed i have heard of the fridge but never tried it. you want to give them just enough of all the essentials to let them live just not grow

I have some in my fridge right now. They have been in since 4/20 and I just change the water everyweek. Plain adjusted and same temp that it registers when I take them out.

had one get too cold and shrivel, but the rest look exactly like when I put them in. I'll keep you posted when I plant them and let you know how well they root

I use plain water to root the clones. If i let the clones only in water with low intensity light, they root but dont grow at all. Sometimes i let the clones in the water with indirect sunlight (and 2 h of a far 15w CFL in the middle of the night, to avoid flowering) for more than 3 months, and then i put them in cococoir with grow light and grow without any problem. Probably its possible to prolong this period with very light foliar feeding, but i never need to do it.

i use the refrigerator stasis method for weeks no probs. the way i did it was to take a gallon size bag and fill about 2" in one corner with straight tap water, or at least enough that it will cover all the tips of the clones. i then add the clones with their bottoms in the corner filled with water. i then blow a lil bit of air in the bag, just a lilnot trying to fill bag, and then seal it. finally i take the ziplock and insert the water filled end into a coffee cup so that the clones will stay semi vertical and the water will not soak the leaves. next i put the cup with the bagin it into the vegetable drawer in the bottom of fridge. first time worked second time i left them lying down(had too many) and for 3mos they were ruined third time and ever since i keep the upper portions of clone out of water. i've done 4 weeks successfull. i personally never change the water, never ph it either cause everything ive ever read says clones without roots dont need ph'd water or nutes of any kind. i go by that and no probs. oh and never leave clones laying around not in water they will die soon. even in water if in room temps sealed up so if you seal them put them in the frige...
