I would never put my hand in a basket. Nobody put's their hands in baskets. It makes no sense.

I might put my hen in a basket, if I had a hen that I was transporting somewhere. Maybe it's more applicable in the farm country. There's gotta be some people carrying hens around in baskets in Oklahoma !!!! How else will they stay put in the back of the pick-up with the cracked windshield.

OK, that's my argument, and I'm sticking to it.
