[A] This is a weird one. Itâ??s a fairly common American expression, known for much of the twentieth century. But itâ??s one about which almost no information exists, at least in the two dozen or so reference books Iâ??ve consulted. A handbasket is just a basket to be carried in the hand. The Dictionary of American Regional English records to go to heaven in a handbasket rather earlier than the alternative, which doesnâ??t appear in print until the 1940s. But DARE quotes a related expression from 1714: â??A committee brought in something about Piscataqua. Govr said he would give his head in a Handbasket as soon as he would pass itâ?, which suggests that it, or at least phrases like it, have been around in the spoken language for a long time. For example, thereâ??s an even older expression, to go to heaven in a wheelbarrow, recorded as early as 1629, which also meant â??to go to hell".

I agree that there are not many 'mod worthy' people here but I think most would agree with me that Torog would make a great one. He's always respectful to others and his posts have meaning to them, not just one sentence posts. Plus he's been here for years.

The mods do most of their work behind the scenes .... and the best mods are the invisible mods. Of course, they don't control, they moderate. The quality of the board still lies in the hands of the members.
And I think "hell in a hen basket" makes more sense.
Peace, my friends.

The situation of getting more MODS is being dealt with. Those of us that are MODS do our best to put as much time into this place as possible, but yes we do have lives that must come first.
