What is praying supposed to do? If there is a God and this God wants the family to not suffer, he'll help them out whether you ask him to or not. But seeing as how the children died a horrible death and have not been resurrected from the dead, I can only conclude that either God doesn't care about their happiness, or this God character is just a myth. If you really want to help this family out, get off your knees and actually do something. Donate your money, give them some clothes or food, but please don't talk to your invisible friend thinking that'll help them out somehow.

I didn't read the story through, but this post caught my attention. Sh!t like this happens all the time; it's just life. You see, death is inevitable,(sp?) and prayer may, or may not help; we simply don't know the facts on this. It certainly couldn't hurt in this situation, imo. I suggest that, if you are going to pray, pray for the family to find comfort in this time of need, and sorrow. I would think this is what they're needing about this time, along with some nescessities.

I've always respected your pov, oneironaut, (You can be quite insightful) but you seem to hold some intence bitterness against those that believe differently than you, and make effort that parallels thier personal convictions. Have you ever considered the possiblity that you may be wrong yourself, or is that an impossibility in your mind?

I do agree with actually doing something to help, but really, are you so shallow minded, or stubborn, that you completely reject all possibilities that counter your own belief system? It seems to me that, if nothing else, prayer may releases some positive energy that could actually be beneficial to those in question. (It's possible) Hell, almost anything is possible!
