Cabinet, 1000W Hydro-DWC SCRoG White Widow
It has finally happened… Turtle has gone hydro!
After much delay (waaay too much, in fact!), it’s ON!
We’re growing two White Widow clones, from a known female plant. It’s inside a cabinet (which sits inside a closet), that measures 20inches by 40inches in its base, and 48inches tall. Because of height restrictions (and newb dreams of grandeour), we’re doing a SCRoG (Screen of Green). Inside the cab, we’re running two bulbs: a 400W MH, and a 600W HPS. Both of them, inside a cool tube (more or less “cool”).
For vegetative growth, we’ll be using only the Metal Halide… when 12/12 (flowering) comes around, we’ll run both MH and the High Pressure Sodium bulbs. That will give us a total of 1000W for the cabinet. I’m aiming at keeping the bulbs from 12 to 14 inches away from the screen.
For exhaust, we’ve got a 300CFM NuTone fan on the top of the cabinet, pulling air OUT. We’ve got a 4” dryer duct fan hooked up at the bottom of the cabinet, as a passive intake. The cabinet inside is Mylared all the way, except the bottom “floor”.
HYDRO setup::: I decided to go the simplest hydro route, and in my opinion, that’s DWC (Deep Water Culture). So, we’ve got one 5 gallon bucket per plant, two plants, and a third 5 gallon “reservoir” bucket”. All three buckets are interconnected, and a small pump is flowing the water through all three.
For the all important hydro readings, we’re running a Hanna meter… we can measure EC/TDS, ppm, pH, and the temperatures of the hydro solution. ( hope I got that right). Anyway, the Hanna meter has two probes, both of which have been located in the reservoir bucket.
Oxygen for the roots::: At the present, we’ve got only one dual-outlet aquarium air pump, running two air stones… one air stone per bucket. Future upgrades (ASAP) are a second air pump, with two more air stones… TOTALS: one air pump + two air stones for EACH bucket. That should give nice bubbles…
NUTRIENTS (“nutes”)::: We’ll be using General Hydroponics (GH) 3-part series nutrients… FloraGrow, FloraMicro, and FloraBloom. Also, GH pH up/down. For WATER we have a RO+DI (Reverse Osmosis + DeIonization) water filter.
NUTE ADDITIVES and STUFF::: We’ve got SuperTHRIVE (basically “a must”). Also, CalMag PLUS (with RO water, basically also “a must”). Later things, I think we have Bloom Booster or something like that…
….
Clones are looking great… they’re really growing during these hours. They’ve been in the hydro setup for aproximately 24 hours (actually, less), and their roots have JUMPED! I hope I see some equally impressive growth rates with the upper side of the plants.
Any and all inputs and suggestions are greatly welcomed…
Thanks for stopping by.

HYDRO READINGS:
15 gallons of tap water

Instead of 225mL, we’ll be putting in 150mL of FloraGrow. 150/225= 0.67 = 67%

Wuhuuu!!!! Things to reply!!!

Yeah, made it my self. Got a couple of issues that need fixing (addition of another air pump, and installing bigger diameter hoses).

Cost of buckets = I think it was $5 for a bucket and a lid. They're good, because they're thick plastic, reinforced at the bottom and top, light doesn't shine through them... and, again, $5.
Thanks for the post gK.
Thanks for posting CactusMan...

LOL!
I'm just kiddin' man...
I've been quiet because I've been time-less... not enough time to... to go into my beloved boards.cannabis.com
The charts are from a FAQ Zandor wrote up... I didn't make them. In any event, they're usefull information. Probably what gK recites every time he wakes up in the morning...

PROBLEMS???
I don't know... maybe....
Ok, I'm uploading some pics... three of them are of the biggest clone/plant, and the 4th one is of the second clone/plant.
Both plants have their leaves curling inwards... in a down-then-inward shape.
They're not dying... I can see that... but, maybe they can be in better shape???
There's a pic of a close-up of one of the leaves... the leaf is slightly "lighter colored" than the lower leaves...
Again guys, thanks for all the help. I realize that they ARE NOT dying, but, maybe I can get some pointers from the experienced? (And the inexperienced too!!!)
Latests HYDRO DATA:::
YESTERDAY @ 8:02PM
6.04 pH
84.1 Farenheit
1967 uS
983 ppm
Relative Humidity = 75%
Air Temperature = 85.6 Farenheit
TODAY @ 10:45AM
1952 uS
84.7 Farenheit
976 ppm
6.04 pH
Relative Humidity = 69%
Air Temperature = 86.2 Farenheit
....
I added some pH down, and before I left them, the pH "more or less" stabilized around 5.75
Other than that... that's it!
Thanks for stopping by everybody!
Best regards to all,
