Brain Washed?
So here is the deal. I have been smoking marijuana on and off for the last two years- never much more than weekly. I initially would rarely do it because I feared I would get some form of cancer down the road. Recently I have been reading a lot of internet articles about marijuana and cancer and they all seem to contradict one another. I don't know who to believe.
This web-site, cannabis.com, and the members of it, have heavily influenced me into believing that marijuana is fairly harmless, and a good thing in general. I find myself believing that if used for the right reasons and not excessively, marijuana can be a great way to improve the quality of life.
Recently though, I began to wonder: Is long-term marijuana use really safe, or have the fellow smokers of this web-site simply brainwashed me into believing that?
By the way, I am not concerned with symptoms such as memory loss, bronchitis, or lack of motivation. I am only concerned with loss of life (cancer). As long as the amount of pot i smoke isn't life-threatening to me, it is completely worth it. I am here to simply ask if I have been brain washed, and if so, by who? The government or you guys? I also would like to know how much pot smoking makes somebody a "heavy user."

You need to do your own independent research on weed.
Don't just listen to what people say on this site and definitely don't listen to the government. Always look out for your own best interest. Good luck and dont be so scared of dying. Have some fun and relax. Good luck

A 1997 UCLA School of Medicine study (Volume 155 of the American Journal of Respiratory & Critical Care Medicine) conducted on 243 marijuana smokers over an 8-year period reported the following: "Findings from the long-term study of heavy, habitual marijuana smokers argue against the concept that continuing heavy use of marijuana is a significant risk factor for the development of chronic lung disease." "Neither the continuing nor the intermittent marijuana smokers exhibited any significantly different rates of decline in lung function as compared with those individuals who never smoked marijuana." The study concluded: "No differences were noted between even quite heavy marijuana smoking and nonsmoking of marijuana."
Marijuana does not cause serious health problems like those caused by tobacco or alcohol (e.g., strong addiction, cancer, heart problems, birth defects, emphysema, liver damage, etc.).

Plus, marijuana smoke doesn't affect the small bronchial passages in the lungs where you get bronchitis.

If you think you may be brainwashed, you probably are. Actually, everybody is. Consider the morals you have. You were taught all about right and wrong but in reality, you're own perception of reality is your actual reality which is general reality to you.
Example:
As children, we watch the Disney cartoons teaching us morals so we all (excluding those who never watched them) have had a parallel moral indocterination.
There are many smarter people on this board than I and if anyone can add or subtract to this, that would be cool.
As far as pot goes, water can kill you if you drink too much too quickly.

The fact that all those ilnesses and more occur without catalyst's should be a clue to you. The illusion of safety, brainwashed an entire generation in to believing they can control there own fate, so much so, that now if any1 dies under the age of 50, we blame an entire host of the deceased activities on his/her 'unfortuneate' shortcomings, just another way to pacify the turbulent, and unbelievable realization, that you are going to die. I've seen 80 yr old men, who have drank bottles upon bottles of whiskey for the past 20-30yrs, smoked tobacco everyday since they were 12, and the occassional spliff, and they are still working, happy as a pig in shit (a bit of a flemmy cough, but what the fuck do you expect?), trawling out boats at 5.30 in the am, fag in mouth, anchor line in hand, pulling 15 ft fishing boats out to sea, then again I've seen a 50 yr old woman, smoke since she was about 18, defeat cancer once, only for it to go back in to remission, and she died about 2 yrs after initial diagnosis. I've also seen a 3 year old girl confined to a wheelchair, a tube protruding from her left arm, barely able to lift her head, weak as fuck because she can't eat due to intense nausea caused by chemotherapy, to treat leukemia (I can't remember which type I was about 6 at the time), she'd never touched a drink, her parents were always healthy, they had no history of family illness and/or cancers and I remember saying to myself. Why? (cuz I was of a christian belief at the time) We've all been brought up to believe, like the author of this thread, that there is a cause to every shortcoming, well, what the fuck did she do, that the fisherman knocking back bottles of whiskey a day, didn't? And we are so scared in accepting that we have no idea, that we write this shit off, as a one off, a truly unfortuneate, seldom occuring event ''Poor girl, poor parents''.
Once had some1 liken smoking in life like walking down the middle of a busy motorway, as opposed to walking on the pavement, what this motherfucker didn't realize is that, when ure walking on the pavement, you expect to get home at some point, to make it away from the danger, and in reality, the road keeps on stretching, until eventually a car will mount the curb, looking especially for you, do we really realize our own mortality? Or do we believe we are initially immortal? and it is the result of bad habits that bring about our mortality?
You can believe whatever you want, brainwashed or not it really doesn't matter, take all the precautions in life, it will end up at the same junction as the smackhead bum, and it will feel like the exact same amount of time as if you had died 50 years prior, when I was 8 I believed I would be 8 forever, when I was 12 looking back at being 8, I believed I had never been 8, it was a hazy recollection, dream-like, but being 12, now that was the reality, and all of a sudden u get older, and each year fades in to a dream-like hazy recollection. You fail to bat an eyelid, the passage of time is so eerily subtle, you fail to really sit up an take notice of just how finite it is, each passing moment will never EVER EVER come back, but you clump it up in to days, or years, the illusion of safety, a comfortable place to lie back, never realizing you're dying the whole time, and when you do get closer and closer to drawing your last breath, you have no idea why at one point you were healthy, with a seemingly infinite amount of time in front of you, and now within a matter of however long your memory lasts for, you're about to die, and it's passing by as it always had done, and you would give everything u'd ever done just for one more minute, not because it's beautiful, a precious gift or any of that sentimental tacky shite, just because you have no idea what makes it what it is, so you can't imagine it coming to an end, because you don't recall it having a middle or beginning.
As for the other q's a heavy user is anyone who uses over 50 times a year I believe (according to the government), and the anti-motivational thing is bullshit, I get stoned out of my fuckin face nearly every single day, and have done for the past year, and the only time I'm lazy, is when I look at the effort that activity would require, A, to the pleasure it would supply me with,x, as opposed to the pleasure I'm gettin now from doing fuck all but sitting and thinking, B. If x=<B+A, I don't get up, and this doesn't only apply to when I'm stoned.
You're always brainwashed because of opinion, everything is relative, public opinion is just another way of people getting you to do what they want, it's neither good or bad, it's not just a human thing either, it's nature. Even if weed gave you gonorrhoea of the eyeballs, it's my fuckin eyeballs, you're gonna help me out, by shunning me? Thanks for the support, care and love  and vice versa (if the people around you were telling you smoking was good, you'd do it more, and honestly believe it's helping you out, look at the synthesis of heroin at the turn of the century, marketed as a cure for morphine addiction lol), the opinion you will assume, will usually reflect your surrounding environment, cuz it will cause you the less hassle to conform with every1 else, resulting in a relaxed atmosphere, and a sense of well-being and placement, again not a human thing, a purely natural one, and you'll rebel when x=>B+A.

You stated that you have been smoking for two years...then I look at your join date...and your posts...how can you even say this board may have brainwashed you when you have been smoking for two years and you just joined CC? Why would you even imply that someone/something has brainwashed you when what you need to be doing is taking responsibility for your own actions and stop saying people from this board have "influenced you"....I also don't get why you want advice from this board after saying you don't know who to believe? IMO your looking for someone to "blame" us or the Government..if your that concerned with it just don't do it...will be more for those of us that KNOW its benefits...oh..and MJ does not have to be smoked..it can be ingested...now what say you to that?
