In the US (if outside the US, tell me what country and I can give you more info), there is no law against consuming salvia (four states: Missouri, Louisiana, New Jersey, and New York) have passed legislation making some uses of salvia a minor criminal offense (some only if you are under 18), but only in those states. As far as human consumption - it is not legal to *SELL* salvia specifically advertised for human consumption because the FDA has to approve all foodstuffs that are sold commercially. However, there is no law against consuming it once you have it. In fact, the traditional method of ingestion is by quid (chewing up the leaves and holding them in your mouth). Most people smoke it these days though, because you really need fresh leaves to quid it.

As far as chemistry (and biochemistry and pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and anything else we want to throw in there):
It is nothing like THC. The only similarity is that neither of them are water soluble. I have no idea what the elimination half life of Salvinorin A is (how long it takes for 50% of it to leave your body).

I will say one thing that wraps it all up in a nice package:
I rolled a salvia joint a few weeks ago, went to a local police station (where a friend of mine works), and smoked it out there talking to my friend and two cops (I had a couple cigarettes too during the time). Neither cop cared, both knew it wasn't weed (it smells nothing like it), and there is no law against it. One of them even took a hit just because he was curious what it tasted like...
delta9420 Reviewed by delta9420 on . SUBSTANCE NOT NORMALLY TESTED FOR... I know salvia divinorum is sold as "not affecting a drug test" and that it is not one of the NIDA 5, and if you use salvia, its not chemically similar to any of the NIDA 5, and you're supposed to be ok with regards to a drug test. But just out of curiosity, i have been trying to find detection times and trying to find out if it is water soluble. Does anyone know anything about detection times and solubility? Also, i figure if a urine sample is tested using GC/MS, would they not be able to Rating: 5
