They shoot shit-loads of it into lab rats and eventually the rats get cancer. I read somehting about it a while ago which mentioned that, while it did cause rats to get cancer, a person would have to drink like 10 gallons of diet coke a day to get an amount equivelent to what the rats got. The article also mentioned that depending on where you live, you probably breathe in more carcinogens each day what you'd get from drinking one diet coke a day.

So, use at your own risk. But the same thing goes for getting into your car or bathtub.
