good choice mate! i'm leaving for navy book camp next tuesday. I was in the same boat you are. i went to college for three semesters lived in a college town for three and a half years. i worked part time, went to school part time, and partied full time. i eventually realized i was going nowhere so i gave the old navy recruiter a call. now i have a plan for the rest of my life. i'm going into the navy to become a construction electrician (seabees) , once i get out, i'll be set for awhile!

before you goto boot camp i recommend you make life hard on yourself for at least a few weeks. sleep on the floor with no pad and no pillow only a blanket or hooded sweatshirt. only eat for health purposes...no soda just water and key nutrician. no sitting in comfortable chairs. walk many miles a day. study rank insignia.

Why you ask....

when you get to boot camp they will try to test your ability not lose your mind and escape from boot camp...very easy to do at great lakes.

that comfortable bunk and variety of beverages and hot food will be all you need to keep your insanity through that hell...

i made it through navy boot camp by following the above info....people around me fled boot camp illegally because they were ill prepared for the "transfer shock"

the navy has waivers for 17 year olds to get in if they have parental consent

The navy also lets people without GEDs in.

At least the air force requires something? With the no child left behind, may I ask what kind of education is that these days?

Suggest you turn your back on aggressive military duty at this time. Defense of ones country is one thing, imposition of someoneâ??s ideas on others another. Even building bridges you are helping the beast.

No one can laugh at death, if you do go, you'll will be a changed man when you come out. You also will be alot more disaplined and have a more precious outlook on life, and how easy it is to end it.

not being ofensive to any service poepl here but i find people who have been in army have like....well no comon sense they allways have to be told what to do. like when they come out the army they dont know how to interact with normal everyday people anymore im not trying to say army people r dumb because they can build refigerators and whatnot but its like the lights on but no-ones home
