Hermaphrodites? How did they happen to me?

So of the five plants that I've been growing (not new to growing, just the forum), two turned male, one female, and two hermaphrodites.

My question to you all is this, I've never had this happen before and I was wondering what you guys think caused this. I havn't changed my setup or timing for lighting since my last grow, and it had 3 females of 5.

    So what's the deal?

Well it can be many things. Bag seeds are likely to be hermie because they have come from a hermie plant. Plants can go hermie through stress. Did you cut the males in the same room, could any pollen have been released by accident?

Many many things to concider. Shit happens, and alot of people will encounter hermies. Just pull the balls off when you see them and flower as normal.

Temperature swings are the single largest stress on the plant. Stress causes hermies more then anything else.

That might be it. I usually don't grow in the winter and my apartment's temperature fluctuates (<-what a funny word) quite a bit when it's cold outside.

By the way, what kind of smoke can I expect from them? I've tried getting all of the male parts that I can, and I've been doing it for a while, but I don't want to break any trichromes off, so i'm reluctant to touch around there.

    Any thoughts?

Well it will still get you high, but over-all yield wont be the same, and the potency will decrease slightly, but dont give up, you can still get bud, and if you have something to smoke at the end it hasnt been a waste of time.

Just make sure you pull all the balls off, and dont worry to much about trichs... they should be too sticky to fall off the plant.

Well, that's good. I wasn't going to get rid of them anyway, I figured they'd still get me high. but one of them is so tall i'm running out of room, and i've still got at least another month until harvest.

    Thanks all.

The taller plant can be supercropped by twisting the stem. You could train it down as well.

but it's already into flowering pretty far and i don't want it's efforts going into re-growing itself, just producing flowers and thc.

but i think that's what i'm going to have to do anyway.

I see. Well do you have any pictures?
How far into flowering is she?
I would not worry about touching the male flowers, better to get them off so they dont pollenate.
