Most of the study's seem to, once again, make the link between causation and consistency of use compared to diagnosis. They merely find that more per-capita schizophrenics use cannabis, therefore linking cannabis as a cause of the symptoms, rather than a result (often a means of dealing with it).

Some studies do show that cannabis use (during adolescence, but it's not for kids anyway!) prior to schizophrenia see higher rates of the illness occuring. But, there's no study as to whether a certain personality trait which makes a person more prone to cannabis experimentation is also a trait or mind-set consistant with the developement of schizophrenia. (meaning) For all we know, those with the type of mind who would want to smoke weed, could also be the type of mind more susceptable to getting schizophrenia. Regardless, the studies so far have only shown this consistency in the adolescent state of mental developement.

Also, and this is more a note of common sense than science, people would probably not have ANY problems from weed if we taught society how to use it responsibly and in moderation, rather than smoking 3 times a day 7 days a week, instead of simply punishing all those who oppose the word of government. I have no doubt that using any chemical 10,000 times more than it's meant to be used, is going to have negative reprocussions.
