Im thinking of dropping out aswell..im not going to go into it now.....but to answer your question....
what job can you get in linguistics?

Consulting
Market Research
Neuroscience
Law
Teaching English as a Second Language
University Faculty
Technology Development
Technical Writing
Dialect Coaching

I know some of these arn't specific jobs, but they are areas you could go into...

As for wether you should drop out or not....at the end of the day it's up to you, do you what you think will make you happy...but you wont really ever know what you missed out on....
so wither way you will always look back on your life and ask "what if?"

I've talked it over with my parents, and we've come to a compromise. I am going to transfer to an easier college and major in French instead. At least then I'll feel like I'm learning a useful skill. Thanks for all the advice, guys.

I`m glad I waited to post a reply to this thread. Just because... Your a smart person as far as I can read. You need nothing but, You still want advice or something. You deseve good advice. You will not get any advice from me. You have 3 years college in the bag? Do what you like. I`m glad to hear your going to walk another mile in some diffirent shoes for your parents. I think you have done some thinking and used your thinking process to your advantage to figure it out for yourself. I have read you over at marihemp as well. YEP. Finish school. It can't hurt you in any way. But without the degree you have basically wasted 3 years and will still be considered only a HS graduate. My best friend was a translator for the UN and had a ball. She traveled all over the country for free, met a ton of people and now has a great job with the Gov't in its Protocol Dept.

With all things you only get one shot. I can't change the past, and no matter what I decide to do I'll be able to wonder what might have been. But I don't dwell on things like that. I can't predict what would have happened, and I can't predict the future. What if I die one year from today? I don't want to have spent the last year of my life where I don't want to be. What if I stay and my life is miserable because I didn't do something or meet someone that I would have had I dropped out?

What I do know is whether or not I stay, I'm not going to get a high paying job. And if I do leave, I'll be able to save a lot of money that I would otherwise pay on a year of learning things I hate to learn in a place I hate to be.

Please think and re-think your decision. You are only one lousey year away from a diploma. A diploma that can make the total difference in your life.

Just know, life isn't easy and I can promise you, it won't get easier. It's hard work to be an adult. That diploma, will, at some point, make the difference in how you live.

dude, do not quit!!! otherwise you'll be wondering for the rest of your life what it would have been like, and what could have happened. I didnt read the whole explanation but no one should quit college because of having to share a room. You never know, the other guy could become your best friend, you just never know
