Unless you want a grandpa nose, don't mix nose and dank.

Exhaling slowly through your mouth is the best way to get the highest possible off of a given hit of smoke. Holding the hit +5 seconds also maximizes this. Take as much fresh air behind a hit as possible. While holding, try to suck more fresh air into your lungs. Even if you think you can't, suck the tiniest bit more. Sit straight up. Put your arms in the air, and then take another tiny breath on top.
Wow. Thanks for all the helpful information bro, I definitely won't be exhaling through my nostrils anymore.

I also agree with taking in a lot of fresh air to follow your hit. Now that you mention it, that's another good method to prevent coughing, if that's what you want to do.

I don't like the heavy lungs feeling after smoking, so I'm in the habit already of inhaling as deeply as I can after a small-medium hit. I'll have to try your "arms in the air" theory too.
