LOS ANGELES Los Angeles County Supervisors have voted to lift a ban on medical marijuana dispensaries.

The board voted 4-to-1 on Tuesday to regulate dispensaries in unincorporated areas. It was a decision hailed by marijuana advocates who gathered outside the Hall of Administration afterward and fired up joints.

Dispensaries must obtain business licenses and conditional-use permits to operate in commercial, industrial and residential zones.

The dispensaries may not be within a thousand feet of schools, youth facilities, churches and parks, and must have signs, adequate lighting, a security system and guards.
