New lights, setting up, help.

Hey guys, im setting up my light. How far away should I keep it from the babies? In the begining, and the future? Its a 400 watt MH/ HPS convertable. Long narrow area. Im going to hook up a little chain so it will be easy to move it. Thanks!

Wow that close, I thought it was only that close with Fluro's. So basically keep moving the light as they grow, it stays that distance?

with floros its relly close, like 2 or 3 inches.

With hps lights,keeps the distance about 18-24" with seedlings.Another way to judge the distance is to test the heat with the back of ur hand,if u find it uncomfortable move the light up.Remember thats these plants will be under the lights for 18-24 hours.

the distance that "gby" suggested is accurate,the heat can be a problem,but it is easily rectified with a fan blowing between the lamp and the plant tops....bonbon
