    yield question for advanced grows

While the flourescent lights will work, you're not gonna get a very good yield off them relative to High Pressure Sodium. At far as the yield off those plants, expect anything from 1 ounce up to 30 ounces. It really depends on how skilled you are and what the conditions are. It's unlikely that you'd get 30 ounces off flourescents, though. But if it's your first grow, don't get your hopes up - if you have low expectations, you won't be disappointed!

Also, consider using something other than miracle grow. It's generally not a good idea since it's a time release formula.

It seems as though you don't yet understand the lighting. There are two parts of the growing cycle. The first is anything from 18/6 to 24/0. This keeps the plants growing like crazy and they will not flower on this cycle, unless they hit the predefined time that they absolutely have to flower. 12/12 is for flowering. The shorter daylight time makes the plant think it's the end of the season and thus time to flower. Do a little reading and you'll get more info on this.

My recommendation, if you haven't started yet, hold off for a while and keep reading these boards so you can learn as much as possible. You won't regret it

3 oz's tops of dry bud
[if your lucky] maybe not even that with fluros.

    yield question for advanced grows

It is impossible to give anyone a good estamation of yield because it all depends on you, how you grow, and the genetics of your plants. You wont be getting alot from flos though, get a HPS and make the grow worth it.

3.5 feet away from the plants is a loooong way away for flourescent lights. The closer your light source -- without frying the plants -- the better. Flourescent lights run very cool per watt because of the length of the tube -- the heat is dispersed better than a CFL or HPS. Also, flourescent lights don't generate as much heat/watt as these other bulbs. You should be able to get them closer to 12 inches (30cm) without burning the plants. Remember, as you double the distance from the light source, the lumens drop off by the inverse square of the distance. So at 2' you get -- um -- (no good at math) -- 1/4 the lumens at the plant that you did at 1'. (correct my math please!)

The name of the game in lighting is lumens, not watts. Watts is electricity consumption (v*a=w). Lumens is light output. Different types of lights consume more or less watts for a given lumen output. The problems with flourescent lights vs HPS or MH is that they don't produce the lumens per watt that the other bulbs do, and they produce it in a different area of the light spectrum. So they are less efficient and less beneficial to yield than some other options. They are however cheap to operate, cheap to maintain, and cool to run. Since they are long and run cool, you can grow in a shorter area. So the tradeoff on efficiency might make sense if you're growing "on the cheap", in a short space that won't let you hang a hotter bulb, or in an area where heat and noticable power consumption are issues.

We've got an assignment for you...

Read every thread in the 1st page of every sub-forum. You'll see why I quoted you above...

As to yields... forget it man... I can take a plant, and have 0 buds in a 160 day span. Zandor can take a plant, and make it yield 1 pound.

$6,000 worth of bud.... from 12 plants... using 4 flos (which I'm guessing is "fluorescents")... fuck that man.

Either your friend is lying, or you have stuff unknown to you.

    No way man. No way.

Oh turtle i should of showed you pictures but im too lazy i bought an mh and hpsbulb and sytem thing. Theres 7 lights i have the mh on rite now i dont really need the hps during vegetation too much money. I decided to go with a 20 hours of light and 4 hours darkness. The big flos are 2 ft above the small ones are 8 inches above. With the 6k with a buds thats a guess but he had way over a pound a mother furocker clipped them ill have him give me some pictures for you to see he was grwing them since August the biggest bud he had was almost like a foot long it was bigger than the buds on the greenlifeseeds.com romulan sweet skunk plant they probably put up his plant pictures if you look around dude but im out
