How to reduce the smell of cannabis (nonmechanically)

It seems, due to the legal ramifications involved with the cultivation of cannabis that there is some interest in reducing the smell exuded by the cannabis plant.

So this thread is dedicated to the possible answers to the question:

How can one reduce the smell being released by the cannabis plant?

Obviously breeding does its part. I am specifically looking for none breeding solutions to this question.

As stated in the title I am also not looking for ways of removing the smell from the air. This is already well documented.

Ever open a large bag of beasters and think to your self where is the smell that goes with these rock hard buds?

Ever open a one ounce bag of organic headies and think why does this smell stronger then the five pounds of beasters in the next room?

I believe alot has to do with what the plants are feed

Organic biochemical biproducts when broken down by the plant return to natural in the form af gases and well smell.

From my experience chemically grown buds dont smell as much.

Personally I prefer a can of ozium and the strongest smelling buds you can produce as in my opinion a bud that smells like it has flavor in fact does, when combustion takes its coarse

Stinky trichs just means lots of pre-cursors unused :error: THC is odorless!

Strange to be doing this but karmaxul your spot on when it comes to the plants themselves. :thumbsup:
What's fed to the plants makes a major difference to the odors the plants produce.

This has been settled many times. Active Charcoal filters are the best way to deal with odor. We have dealt with this issue every week for the past year. Please search the forum you may find the answer you are searching for sooner then waiting for someone to post replyâ??s.

Do they make a product that you use during flush to make them smell extra delightful? I know some people let the roots dry out a little and then add some vanilla extract (or something similar) so the plant absorbs some of that flavor. Does anybody else do this and/or is there anything else you let the roots soak up to enhance flavor?

alchemiser: Okay, THC is completely odorless. I just learned something new. I would really like to try the "pure THC" high. I am interested in altering the smell of cannabis not actually eliminating it. I thought if I asked about what types of nutrients can be fed to the plant or ways of manipulating the plant that would eliminate the odor I could get a better idea of the actual mechanisms in the plant that control the volatile aromatics.

That being said: When is the best time to feed glucose to the plant? Do you apply to the root zone or is this something you apply through foliar feeding?

karmaxul/chris: I too enjoy the smell/flavor of the buds. What does calcium sulfate do? How do you apply it?

MaryjaneMenehune: Vanilla. Interesting, do you notice the difference in the smoke or just in the smell of the plant and buds? I wonder what else could be used to alter the flavor?

Just to clarify: by "non-mechanically" I meant in an imprecise way that I didn't want to talk about carbon filters, Fabreeze, O3 and the like. I think those of you who read the first post understood that though.
