PHILADELPHIA -- A burglary call at a house led to the seizure of roughly 2,500 pounds of pot worth about $11.6 million on the street, police said Monday.

It was believed to be the largest marijuana bust in the city in more than 40 years.


Police responding to a 911 burglary call Saturday night at a home in West Philadelphia searched the home and discovered 120 bales of pot in the basement.

Two men were arrested and charged. One of the men told police someone had paid him to use the house as a storage facility.

The seizure "was the biggest we've had in 42 years that we know of," said Police Commissioner Sylvester Johnson.

What upset me more about this seizure is that the police commissioner repeatidly referred to the marijuana as narcotics, and how the city is working harder and putting more recourses into getting this narcotic off of the streets of Philadelphia. I'm no chemist so I was wondering what defines a narcotic? Is it only a classification that the government can place any substance or is it defined by chemical content? Or by the way it interacts with the body?

imi pretty sure they didnt make the call it was probably a fake burglarly call from someone who new they had it. because unless they had something else in their house that was worth more than 11.5 million dollars they probably knew not to call the cops. that or, and im not saying this is what happened but it could have, the cops were aware they had it but lacked the evidence for a search so lied about the burglarly call

LEO can't enter your home without a warrant and/or permission regardless of the situation.

They can't just show up at your door, say they recieved a call, and start searching your home for illegal substances.
