Surviving in the wild, could you do it?
Never tried to use a bow drill but have started fires with flint and even a lens off my camera once. Finding water in the desert would be tough. I have a basic idea how to do it but do admit I don't have a lot of desert experience. Like I mentioned earlier, a lot would depend on where I was. As for Whitney, I've never actually tried it. The mountaineers route is well within my limits as a climber though as I have a great deal of experience in technical rock and ice climbing. For about 10 years climbing was the main focus of my life and I had planned on being a Mountain Guide. I even worked in a store that sold backpacking and rock climbing equipment.

Yea I could survive. Used to take camping trips with nothing but a knife and some string and got by fine. I was noticing though. Does it look like that animal that dudes cooking in the second picture have fur on it still? It looked like a big rat or something, but couldn't tell as half of it was burnt.

Just thought I'd throw this in, I've heard that the most valuable tool to have when you're stranded out in the woods is a hatchet.
as for water in the desert, you dig a little hole and put a plastic ziplock bag in it, leave it over night, and the next morning it'll have some water. also you can drunk from cacti of course.
