Every Child Left Behind

I am a tutor/ teacher's aide. I used to work for GEAR UP. bush eliminated GEAR UP. GEAR UP provided in class tutoring, afterschool homework sessions, shadow days, and was indespensible for some students. More than once I have been introduced to the parent of a former student as "the lady who got me through 7th grade". Six of my students were so outraged when this valuable program was cancelled, that they asked how to write bush! (I got them on a computer, showed them the web site and walked away! I bet bush got an earful from all of them! :thumbsup: LOL) I have had parents express their disappointment that GEAR UP was gone. bush claims to have the goal of "No child left behind", yet he underfunds the few programs he keeps and eliminates effective programs. He also cut back on UPWARD BOUND, a program to get kids in college and vocational training programs. You know what this looks like to me? We have this kid who can't get good grades in middle school (no GEAR UP), goes on to high school and does worse (no GEAR UP or UPWARD BOUND), barely gets his diploma, finds that the vocational training school is closed. He's stuck in a dead end job at McBurger and then hears how the army is giving these big fat enlistment bonuses... bush is setting things up for Jenna and Barbara's runs at the presidency and their little wars that they will feel obligated to have (family tradition, ya know!). War keeps the populace occupied and obedient by distracting them and playing on the us vs them mentality. The bush girls will need those dumb grunts to fight for Venezualan/ African/ mid east oil. daddy's just getting things all ready for his little girls!
