China's almost the next superpower. Give it a century. Don't you read Time? Or do you just not believe it because it does not conform to your theories?

Being "behind" is a relative term. To the people living in the Middle East, the people in America could be behind, and that can be considered both true or not true. I mean, here in America, we value freedom, whereas they value a much more religious life.

They see us as Pagans, and are they wrong? Look at how much smut is online. We have so much porn spewing out of America, and you know where it comes from? The San Fernando Valley, where I live. Is porn wrong? I don't think it is, but they sure do. Does that mean they're wrong? Who's to say?

What's wierd is how you can trace an arc from every superpower that has existed, technically starting with Ur, to the United States, and guess what? China's next. That last paragraph really had nothing to do with this thread, but it's an interesting thing to think about, isn't it?

You know the god's honest truth is, if there was a war tomorrow, there is only one country I'd gladly pickup a gun to fight against...

Like it or not, the USSR saved our asses in World War II, just like we saved theirs. If Hitler hadn't been all tied up with that eastern front, I don't see any reason why he couldn't have successfully invaded the British Isles and had complete control of Europe, pretty much blocking any attempt at a non-nuclear solution to the war against Germany. And who knows, maybe without the huge waste of money, men and resources spent fighting Russia they could have gotten the bomb first.

To be truthfull we could have stopped the second war in its tracks had we been as intelligent as the socialist International Brigade who took on Franco in the Spanish civil war(in which the Fokker pilots got there traing helping Franco out) but Europe Britain especially turned a major blind eye to Fascism.

It could have been stopped if genusies like Orwell had been listened to....before it even started

Erm, in WW2 Hitler came VERY, VERY close to dropping a nuke on San Fran and Washington. There was a program about it on the History or Discovery channel.
The Amerikans just got there a few days quicker with Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
So in reality, Hitler nearly dominated the world. Dropping the nuke on Japan more or less ended the war... If Hitler dropped a nuke on Amerika, that would more or less end the war aswell - and he would have complete world dominance.

According to media reports, Hitler in second world war was too confident of Nazi Germanyâ??s victory even in 1944-45 time frame when allies were closing in on him from all sides.

Nazi Germany was inches away from delivering intercontinental ballistic missiles with nuke warheads. Hitlerâ??s confidence (fortunately for the world) never materialized because though the prototypes were tested, they could not be deliverd in the battlefield on time due to lack of resources and time constraints.

According to an 88-year-old former Italian war correspondent, Hitler was preparing to unleash a nuclear bomb on the Allies in the last days of the Second World War. In his book ''Hitler's Secret Weapon'', Luigi Romersa claims to be the last living witness to an experimental detonation of a Nazi weapon he says was the world's first atom bomb.

Recently, historian Rainer Karlsch published a study suggesting that the Nazis conducted three nuclear weapons tests in 1944 and 1945, killing 700 people.

According to think tanks, what really happened is that the Nazi Germany had definitely invented the nukes and missiles but the technology could not be delivered in the battlefield on time. The efforts failed due to lack of time and resources.

Romersa claims that in September 1944, Benito Mussolini entrusted him with a secret mission. Italy's wartime leader wanted to know more after Hitler boasted to him of weapons capable of reversing the course of the war. Romersa, then a 27-year-old war correspondent for Corriere della Sera, was sent to Germany and he met Hitler in a bunker in Rastenburg, northern Poland. He was also given a tour around the Nazis'' secret weapons plant at Peenemunde, on the Baltic coast.

Romersa said from his home in Rome how he saw weapons "streets ahead of any conventional weapons the allies had at the time". He said: "They were developing a missile which they said they intended to launch from Europe across the Atlantic to bomb America."

Recent evidence from Russian archives has, however, shown one of the German scientists lodged a patent claim for a plutonium bomb as early as 1941. Romersa said: "Hitler and Nazi Germany had a very, very developed weapons programme and were certainly capable of creating an atomic bomb."
