The majority of "educated" people I speak to are like-minded; they agree that democracy is a bunch of crap. Even if that were the case, so what? In 1700 very few educated people took representative democracy seriously. In 1850 very few educated people took the theory of evolution seriously. An idea's merit is not based on how many people take it seriously. It is based on how true the idea is.

Many could not even define the word.

The word is quite easy to define: anarchy is simply the absence of rulers (rulers being people who enforce their wills upon others by means of threats or violence) and power hierarchies. Anarchism is the promotion of such a state of affairs, and opposition to hierarchical/authoritarian ideologies as capitalism, state, theism, sexism, racism, homophobia, etc. I am certain that the vast majority of anarchists would agree with that definition.

Berkman got want he deserved. My grant grandfather arrived at about the same time and started working(he was 14) in the coal mines of Penn. to help support his family. Berkman wanted to start trouble.

Berkman didn't want to "start trouble" just for the sake of starting trouble. He wanted to change social affairs because he perceived them as incredibly unjust.

First of all, I already won, even before I started writing about this post.

Oh, by the way I taught Political Science at the college level. So I have the credentials. I retired to run a non-profit org.

Think of the world as a large company.......some have worked there for thousands of years and STILL work in the mailroom....while others have worked there for only a couple of hundred years and are the CEO.

Eutopia.

No businesses, no corporations, no organizations. Everybody working together for the soul benefit of mankind. To me, that is what true anarchism means. It's not some kid up in his room listening to Dark Side of the Moon over and over again while saying that he wishes there was anarchy because then he would rule the streets, namely because if there was anarchy in that sense I would probably be the first to beat his ass down. To me, it is a makeshift nirvana, when everyone truly lets go and finds their own inner peace.

And the question should be, if there are countries that are "behind" the U.S., why aren't we using our immense wealth and industry to help them? There is enough food in the world to feed everybody, but due to the unequal distribution of wealth on this planet millions die of starvation every year.

What?! You're comparing countries to people in a corporate hierarchy?! You're saying the US is the CEO of the world and gets to boss everybody else around just because it's more "advanced"? You're saying the rich white countries can boss around the brown people in the rest of the world just because they're richer and have more technology? Wake up and smell the racism buddy!

What other country wastes more money on its military? What other country initiates more coups d'état? What other country spends more money fighting the useless war on drugs? What other country imprisons more of its population? Just because we give some of our money away to make ourselves feel a little better doesn't balance out the huge inequalities that capitalism creates.

Sorry, it's just that global injustices like capitalism which are causing millions of people to starve needlessly FUCKING PISS ME OFF.

We have a right to get worked up about these kinds of things. Dare I say an obligation. If we don't get worked up about them, nothing will ever change. And if we don't change anything, we are subjecting our children to the same injustices we have to put up with. Inaction = surrender.
