oh yea, at one point, for over a month i had tried:
exerting myself extensively, drinking nothing but water (and milk at night, no soda's no caffiene none of that, avoided as much sugar as possible, basicly did everything you can do aside from putting something in your body that causes you to sleep for one reason or another... oh yea, don't forget i made myself wake up at a normal hour durring all of this, reguardless of what time i went to sleep, hoping that i would eventually like restore somewhat of a natural sleep pattern... i've tried everything, you name it i've done it... this is the worst part, i can be laying in bed, not moving, comfterable as hell, for 3 or 4 hours, quieting my thoughts, and just lay there, with everything else you could imagine, dark room, slightly lit room, dark room face covered, tv on, tv on low, compelete silence, and all i will do is... is finally give up, i'll of went to bed at say like 11:14 after laying there, as if i was asleep, but all the while totally conscience (not even slight drowsiness) i sit up after giving up.. the clock would read something like 3:27... that's the worst part about it... under these same conditions a normal person would have fallen asleep alot longer ago...
