I've always kept the buds intact and ground as needed. Breaking them up ahead of time would expose more to the air and that's the enemy. Then again, it's not like the buds themselves are airtight so it probably doesn't make all that much difference.

still i'd rather buy weed all nugged up. my friend keeps his eighths seperately bagged in a jar in the fridge. it works quite well with a few already broken out for when he's out and somebody needs bud who ever's there can hook it up without having to weigh out a bag
