I recently moved into a new rental house and found this growing beside the HVAC unit outside....can someone help me with what this is? I have grown smoke only twice, but never saw the "thorn" on the stems???? All help is appreciated.

that iznt cannabis. juss a kind ov flower that happenz ta have leavez that look kinda similar 2 weed. therez a row ov these growin outside my room an they do smell alot like pot when they r first startin 2 grow but they will stop smellin like it after a while. when i first seen the onez outside my house(juss moved here) i thot at first galnce they wuz pot plantz but unfortunatly there not. oh an by the way, u will see that "thorn" as u call it in real pot plantz too. it aint a thorn tho, juss new growth.
