Former teacher won't face sex crime trial

TAMPA, Florida (Reuters) - A former Florida teacher who pleaded guilty to having sex with a 14-year-old boy will not have to stand trial on additional charges because prosecutors dropped those charges on Tuesday.

Debra LaFave pleaded guilty in November in Tampa to committing lewd and lascivious battery on a student who attended the middle school where she taught in Florida's Hillsborough County.

Under the plea agreement reached with the Hillsborough prosecutors, LaFave, 25, was sentenced to three years of house arrest and seven years probation.

She faced additional charges in neighboring Marion County for having sex with the same student during a trip there.

Prosecutors in Marion County agreed to the same plea because the boy's parents said they did not want him to have to testify at what was expected to be a widely covered and televised trial.

Two points.....first is that it pays to be a good lookin' bitch to the courts I guess. If this were a dude, they would be calling in the kid as a hostile witness if he didn't testify freely.

Second, I'll bet he is embarrassed...not about being violated but fucking up a good thing!

Anyhow, you gotta wonder about a grown woman having sex with a 14yo boy though. She definitely has to have some issues. XTC was right though, if the teacher was a guy they'd throw the book at him. Why should she get off freely? I'm sure the kid was pretty willing but does that make it any more right?

I think the kids mom decided she didn't want to put her son through the trial and the prosecutions case fell apart after that. There def. is a double standard, had this been a male teacher he would have been hammered. Still, the kid is probably a hero. lol

Actually she was (still is) younger than me. I waited a while after high school before going back to school. She was one of those genius kids who started college at 15 and by the time she was 23 had finished grad school and was a full professor at one of the top three universities in China.
