homedepot its just liek hard tiney peces of somthen taht looks liek strofome helps keep soild not as compact

BLACK GOLD is the best soil I have ever SEEN!!!
Amazing stuff..
Perlite is stuff you want to mix with your soil.. it is cheap and a very good investment of you are a newbie...
It is nearly impossible to overwater with a good perlite mix...

iv been told to mix clean sand with the mix also is that a good idea?

I havnt ever mixed sand, but get a good, soft soil, and mix in perlite, it will stop the soil from being too compact, and let the roots breathe. You could put sand in but not alot.
