Americans being bombarded by anti-marijuana commercials
“If voting changed anything, it would be illegal.” —Emma Goldman

Plus, any politician is perfectly free to contradict any promise they made on the campaign trail. Remember Jimmy Carter said he was going to decriminalize marijuana? Well, it's still not decriminalized. Voting didn't do it.
Did voting stop the English monarchy? Did voting stop slavery? Did voting stop Prohibition? Did voting stop segregation? No, in all these cases the government had a vested interest in maintaining the status quo and wasn't going to give it up unless it absolutely had to. The system didn't change because people voted for change. It changed because the majority of people wanted change and took to the streets for change. Learn from history. We have to bring legalization about ourselves. The political bureaucracy is not going to do it for us.
