if you don't understand why (s)he said god help you... it's because (i think) they're going along the lines of "history repeats itself, if we forget the history, shit like the nazi crap will happen again.. which personally i don't believe in... i mean we don't have to study this shit extensively, even a reminder once in awhile would be suffiecient enough to keep it fresh enough in our minds that if "remembering what did happen, means it would not happen again" really held true, it would keep it from happening again... i mean we don't have to know names, dates and all that bullshit just to keep shit like the nazi's from happening again (sorry for my rant, i really hated history.. i found it quite pointless.. well atleast by 7th grade, i had already learned just about everything i was going to about history from every grade before that...)

I completely agree... but the written word is always bold lie and you should never take it literally. Something to remember not to start ethnic cleansing of surrounding countries and justify killing millions of people to a bunch of brainwashed patriots, sure... but no matter what you've read about the Nazi War, you don't know the whole story so you don't know what EXACTLY happened. And what exactly happened isn't the point... it's what happened on a grander scale. Why did this happen? Did it have to happen?

in terms of truthfull-ness i worry more about the older shit (say 1700's and earlier?) because, it would have been waaaaaaay easier to lie and get away with shit back then, then say durring world war II due to the lack of readiness to be able to conversate with other countries/leaders, lack of no video/picture proof of anything and so on... not saying it would even be hard to lie and get away with it on a large scale these days, but it sure as hell would of been aloooot easier then 300 years ago...

oh yes i know, i was just giving an example... for instance i might half assed believe some of the shit in the history books at school, i don't believe a single thing in the bible.. i mean.. the shit in the history books seems like looong ago to us.. but in comparison to the bible it's a new born baby... and the longer something's been around (especially somethign that's been translated multiple times to multiple diffrent languages...) the more chance it's had to of been tampered with by humans, or of been mis-translated, and thus, not be completely truthful, if not completely false...

I don't want to type out a long debate right now since Ima so tired, but there is proof that events in the bible did actually occur. Furthermore, I don't think you guys can go on thinking that everything ever published in written word is somehow false or tampered with. Sure, I'll be willing to believe that some things have been tampered with and the truth might have been stretched here and there. History is history, not fiction. There's a seperate category for that. It's the pages of fiction that the reader should not take every word literally, as symbolism goes hand in hand with fiction. I find it hard to believe that someone would lie to you about events like WWI or II, no matter what your reasoning may be. There's no logic in lying to people like that. What does it do besides cover up some big govt. secret, IF there is one. Alright, that's all I got. I'll come back here tomorrow with my debatin' boots on. Peace bros.

first of all where is this proof? if you can't provide some super-natural holy shit right infront of my eyes, then i won't believe the bible... you know that game telephone? where you start off with a word, whisper it to the person next to you, who in turns does the same thing.... just to see how messed up the original word came out... well to me the bible is like that.. but a 2,000+ year long game of it... 2,000 years man, multiple translations (and i'm pretty sure some are very hard to read, and requires an expert in the language to even begin to decipher the messages)... do you honestly expect 2% of it is truthful/accurate? also, i never said they lied about WWII, i had done 2 elaborate reports in school on WWII, 1 on vietnam, and 1 on WWI, after doing all that research i started noticing that things didn't add up. i can't remember the things i found that didn't match up cuz that was years ago, around 6-7 years ago... but they weren't small

next, i never once said i think all history is a lie... i merely stated i'd be sure as hell alot more inclined to believe something's that only 300 years old as opposed to 2,000...

First off, you apparently forgot that I never challenged you on history, but on your approach to the present. Which isn't to say I agree with the simplistic human drives you apparently think all of history boils down to. You're 15 and that's great, and in no way a limitation, but (hopefully) you'll continue to grow up and by the time you're 20, maybe the picture will seem different, and bigger, than it was before? I've seen a lot of people spend so much time talking big game that they never had time for anything else, and 5 years later they're still... talking.
