All the news shows is the roadside bombs....it's always nice to see one of the troops on tv stating that things are a lot better and that the folks back home shouldn't believe all the garbage that the media is pushing.

Sunday marks the three year date since the War on Terror began. This weekend protesters marched on downtown Chattanooga, armed with signs and chants. They say the want the troops to come home.
But there are also those who say that now is not the time to pull out of Iraq.
Sunday, News Channel 9 spoke with several Tennessee National Guardsmen their thoughts on the continuing war -- many of them have recently returned from Iraq.

Tennessee National Guard Adjutant General Gus Hargett says he's aware of this weekend's mass protests across the nation as the War on Terror reaches a three year mark.
He adds, â??If you get a guy like me, I'm naturally going to say, yeah, we're doing good. Our soldiers are doing good. We're proud of those guys but it's bigger than that. It's bigger than that â?? It's our country.â?�
March 19, 2003, President George W. Bush announces the U.S. is declaring a War on Terror.
In the days,weeks and months that follow, U.S. troops deploy overseas -- to fight on foreign soil.
This weekend protesters could be found marching in downtown Chattanooga, chanting and carrying anti-war signs.
Their message is for President Bush is to bring the troops home.
Adjutant General Hargett says, everyone is entitled to their opinions but adds the U.S. is committed to finish what it started.
He adds, â??Are we safer today than what we were three years ago? I think we are. I think the fact you haven't had an attack in the U.S. Tells you we're safer.â?�
Adjutant General Hargett says pulling out now would mean facing the possibility of attacks on American soil in years to come.
He adds, â??We made a commitment three years ago and I think if we pull out now, no part in the world would trust us again.â?�
Specialist William Arnold spent eighteen months training and in Iraq.
He says, he believes Americans should pull together during war time -- no matter how long it takes. He says, to end it would make the loss of many lives in vain.
Specialist Arnold adds, â??And if you pull out now, it kind of seems like there's no reason for them to have gave the ultimate sacrifice they gave.â?� Since the war began -- over 2,300 U.S. troops have made that ultimate sacrifice.

March 13, 2006 -- WASHINGTON - An Iraqi mayor says he was motivated to write a letter praising the performance of U.S. troops in his city because he believes the American public is not getting the full story about the "heroic" work they are doing.
In an exclusive telephone interview with The Post, Tal' Afar Mayor Najim Abdullah Abid al-Jibouri said he wants American policymakers and the public to know there is real progress taking place in Iraq.

"I'd like American citizens not to trust everything that is being said in the media because, unfortunately, most of the media is talking about negative things and about the problems," al-Jibouri said, speaking through a translator.

"They are not telling good stories about the U.S. Army's good job here in Iraq. I would like American citizens to concentrate on the pictures that show the children of Iraqis and how happy they feel when they see or meet American soldiers."

Al-Jibouri, 49, wrote dramatic letters to President Bush and Gen. George Casey, commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, last month praising the Army's 3rd Cavalry Regiment for routing the terror network headed by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi from Tal' Afar, a city of 250,000 people 40 miles from the Syrian border.

At least 2,314 U.S. military personnel have died in the war, which is estimated to have cost $200 billion to $250 billion so far. President Bush says about 30,000 Iraqis have been killed, while others put the toll far higher

"It is unfortunate that we are in civil war. We are losing each day as an average 50 to 60 people throughout the country, if not more," former interim Prime Minister Ayad Allawi told British Broadcasting Corp. "If this is not civil war, then God knows what civil war is."
