    DUMPSTER DIVING

It's for everyone. For me and for you and for your mother and her lover.
Honestly. Overstock, food nearing expiration but still good, slight imperfections and blemishes, and out of season goods. Want more reasons? The US wastes 96 billion pounds of perfectly good food each year.

How about finding 92 pounds of still good, wrapped chocolate thrown out because it was a few days after Easter.

Its pretty sad, and yet we look for ways to end hunger in third world countries. Do we really want to stop hunger or just make it look like we care.

Do your part. Go dumpster diving. I found a great pair of shoes once. Maybe you will find cool things too.

I agree. We, the rich, use more than the poor. We waste more in a week than the poor will have in a year.

My sense of smell is wayyy too good for that, though. I couldn't stand the smell.

We have food banks around here where the grocery stores give them the expired, but still good food too. No one is really going hungry in this city as we have about 3 different food banks here. They just need to stop bothering me for toonies so they can buy their beer.

We still waste alot. At the place I work, we throw out at least a garbage bag full of muffins and such a night. It goes into the compactor, not to a food bank.

I work in a grocery store... we throw out soooo much food a day. I've asked the manager about this... he told me that we can't send this food to food banks, churches etc. because it's past it's best before date, and could potentially make someone sick. Could it not also potentially save a starving person's life? Anyway, I know how you feel.. it's hard to watch them throw away an entire bag of apples because one of them is rotten... any suggestions or possible solutions would be greatly appreciated!

Why does it feel like more often than not, we as humans are working AGAINST each other, rather than HELPING one another?

Yeah, we're not allowed to give away the wasted food either, it's pretty sad. I worked at an arts and crafts store and they wouldn't let me take home broken merchandise that was going in the trash anyways. How ridiculous is that? I think I'll put on my scuba gear and go dumpster diving down there this week.

When I was back in highschool I worked at a Cici's pizza buffet, and everynight we would throw away about 15 untouched perfect pizzas, they even told us we couldn't take it home because it was for our own saftey.

Maybe they would rather you buy them. If you got free pizza's all the time because they were going to throw them out, you wouldn't ever buy them, right? They are only looking out for your best interest.

i used to work at a grocery store, and was appauled at the stuff i had to throw away just because the stores motto was "Baked Fresh Daily" so anything a day old was thrown out..

i guess i was good for the store though... because im always.. "Baked Fresh Daily"
