Veg with CFL or HPS?
Alright everyone I have a question for all of you. I have a box 30" L x 19.3" W x 35.8" H, mounted on the roof of the box is a 400W HPS system. I also have 6 loose CFL bulbs adding up to about 200W (ALL EITHER SOFT/WARM WHITE) would I be better off going through the veg stage with the HPS our the CFL. If the CFL are the better option do you guys have any cheap mounting suggestions?

Use the CFLs... well, if you don't mind about your electricity bill, use both kinds of bulbs!
As to mounting options, I placed my CFLs horizontally... then, took some wire, made a loop around the base... fine, then, put another piece of wire around the top of the bulb... then, hand as you wish...

Yea Knowm thats what I was wondering about, if the HPS should be 12-18" from the plants wouldn't they stretch alot? I'm not sure even with a cool tube if the plants could come within inches.

heat is going to be a major problem with your grow...you have 3.958 sq. ft....4 sq. ft...that is 100 watts per foot ...more than enough for plants... u will have to put them in flower pretty early, due to height limitation... remember, a plant can double( or more) its height in the flower stage... u can put them into 12/12 when they are 6":rasta: tall... use 1 gal. pots.. u can get 15 in a 30" x 19" area... hope this helps...K.

yes with a cool tube you should be able to get the light within 1-2 inches from your plant... i think?
I am pretty sure you can touch a cool tube with your hand..
and it feels fine..

Really Knowm? I'll check that out. Actually heavy in an even smaller box we had the temps at a perfect 76 and 67% because cool air humidifiers are the shit.
