umm . . . there's no "neg" or "pos" in a/c wiring, folks. That's d/c theory. And in this discussion some of you don't think you "need" a ground. Very scary, very DANGEROUS advice from the ignorant!

a/c is polarized to reduce the shock hazards that stupid wiring advice generates, but it's not perfect. Especially if that stupid wiring advice calles for crossing wires in a circuit. a/c is grounded to minimize shock hazard in damp environments especially. Any dampness in your grow room, Golmer?

black = hot.
White = neutral.
Green or brown or yellow = ground.

But don't take my word for it. Some other Golmer might have beaten you to the stupid. Pull the cover from your breaker panel. See if the black wires come off the breakers, which are connected to a leg of your incoming power. Look for the white wires attach to a "bus bar", and the ground (oddly enough) also to attach to a bus bar in an identical fashion. Pull a wall socket from the wall. (flip the breaker first!). Make sure the black wire from your cord ends up at the black side of the plug, the white to the white side, and that the ground is in present, and connected to the center prong.

Please pay attention to this stuff, especially if you don't understand it. Making a wiring mistake in your grow room can kill your kids in the bathroom or the ol' lady at the kitchen sink. There's more at stake here than ruining a crop!
