imagine that, for example, a tribe called quest (i know theyre an older group i don't think their still together but this is a hypothetical situation) went completely mainstream and started showing up on mtv, vh1, magazines, all kinds of mainstream shit. would you still like them or would you just stop liking them because they're getting popular.

all im saying is i don't see the thrill in listening to underground random shit just so people hear you talking about your favorite bands and think you're really unique and special because you listen to a bunch of music they've never heard of. and i don't even really listen to "mainstream" music either, but if i like a song that's mainstream then i like it because it's pleasing to my ears, not because the band is popular or just because it's mainstream. the exact same goes for underground music.

i'm tryin not to attack u in this post i'm just stating my opinion on what u said so if u respond lets try not to make this into a big ass argument and shit :rasta:

    happy highs
i see wat ur saying but the rap on the radios now a days that r mainstream rnt even rap there music to get money. if tribe went mainstream i would still like them cuz they wouldnt change there music just to get money. look at all these rappers now a days for example. lil wayne used to be sick as hell. outkast used to be amazing and now there mainstream jus makin music for radio heads to listen to and buy there shit. its not hip hop or rap now.

and for Buddahlovas said EPMD yea there sick as shit and brand nubians and all those groups. and another thing he said they have no lyrical skill...it doesnt get any more true than that.

To talk shit about commercial rap is the dumbest shit ive ever heard. Yes its true that there are alot of rappers on the comercial side that lyricly are simple and fake but to say that all rappers or crews that get popular are all terrible is retarted. The whole goal of most underground rappers is to get signed to a major record deal and make money off their skills, so the major motivation for the underground and just up in comming rappers is to be a "commercial rapper". And how do u think the " commercial" rappers get signed in the first place. They all start out the same way no popular rapper just gets signed to a record deal without getting their name and skills out there so the record companys with pay some attention to them.
