Lighting
Hi all..
Beginner here.. Planning my first grow..Just setting up and here is my lighting system.
Here is a quote I have read about lighting by Mel Frank and Ed Rosenthal
"Florescent light is the most effective and efficient source of artificial light readily available to the home grower.
The minimum-size garden contains a four-foot fixture with two 40-watt tubes, which use a total of 80 watts. Dividing total watts by 20 (watts per square foot) gives 80w divided by 20w/sq. ft=four sq.ft. (an area one by four feet)."
"The more light you give the plants, the faster they will grow. Near 50w/sq. ft. a point of diminishing returns is reached, and the yield of the garden is then limited by the space the plants have to grow. For maximum use of electricity and space, about 40w/sq. ft. is the highest advisable. Under this much light the growth rate is incredible. More than one grower has said they can hear the plants growing - the leaves rustle as growth changes their position."
"The yield of the garden is difficult to compute because of all the variable that determine growth rate. A conservative estimate for a well-run garden is one ounce of grass (pure smoking material) per square foot of garden every six months. "
I have a 4ft florescent fixture with 2 cool whites and 2 soft whites.
Area = 2ft x 4ft x 3 1/1ft = 26square ft
Top of area comes down on a bit of an angle
Is this enough light for my grow room?
I have attached some picture of where I plan on growing them.

and if soo..
How many plants could I put in it???
Would the SOG be the best method??
Is my area too big or two small for this lighting system????
bye for now..would appreciate any input.. always looking to learn and save money...loosewheel Reviewed by loosewheel on . Lighting Hi all.. Beginner here.. just so you'll know, you have calculated cubic feet, not square feet ... your 2 foot X 4 foot area is 8 square feet ..... or, needing 320 watts to be at 40 watts per square foot :smokin:

people have proven that better results can be achieved by using say 60watts per square ft than 40
