This one death may scare people into going "OMG see! see! marijuana KILLED somebody!", but what most people don't realize is that such an attitude is born out of the massive ignorance towards the pharmacudical industry. The government does a real nice job quieting down the fact that over a hundred thousand people die a year from prescription meds in the states alone. but give us one person who smokes a joint and dies (which has yet to happen) and let the fear mongering begin!

I watched the movie "Requiem for a dream" yesterday, and it made an excellent point when his mother got on these weight-loss drugs (which are really just speeders). she eventaully starts hallucinating and losing grip on reality, destroying her mind day by day on these things, with the doctor just dismissing her as having "side-effects". it's amazing really how me using cannabis to relieve my pain is illegal, yet I just got some flexeril from the doctors that get me so stoned sometimes I can't function.

next time somebody argues making medical marijuana legal will increase use recreationally, point out that several opiod and other much harder drugs are all legally and frequently prescribed as painkillers. I guess that encourages even harder drug use too.
