Could it all come down to pride?

We are living in the age of information. There have been thousands of studies done on marijuana. Many of the studies have found that it is less dangerous then over 90% of the drugs prescribed to us. Less dangerous then most of the drugs we can buy without a prescription. Less dangerous then a lot of the food/drinks we consume. Yet the government is still putting weed in the same category as cocaine, meth and heroin. Why?

They have arrested thousands of people and spent billions of dollars on their "war on drugs." Are they just too proud to admit they were wrong about weed?

Yeh like if the had had same ill working policy on say health for 60 odd years they would have been voted out of the statute books.

Yet the drug policy has never worked so has been further endorsed......completely the opposite to any other policy,

I understnad were BH is coming from but i think it runs deeper than that.

The billions of dollars are what its all bout

i think that its all about moneyand control.
most americans are on some kind of meds.
if people self medicated with bud there
wouldnt be a demand for pharmuecticals.
and if mj was legal it is easy to grow.
there would be no way to control its use
and production.in other words there would
be no profit for the government.
if they were smart they would use cannabis
    for many things besides medicine.
    fuck the government
    grow your own shit
sell it and take a vacation

I agree with a lot of what you guys are saying. Maybe I didn't explain it right in my first post.
I was saying that there are many legal things out there that are much worse then weed. I feel for the medical mj users, but I'm not necessarily talking about them in this thread. I'm more upset about the amount of people that are arrested every year for buying/selling/growing a plant that is harmless. Now, after all the studies, I think there is no reason to justify taking away a persons human rights. I was brainstorming for reasons why they are still spending billions and locking people up... pride was one of the reasons I came up with.

No, it's not pride, it's money. Hemp can replace about 75% of the things that are currently produced by the petro chemical industry including nylon, polyester and even cotton (not petro chemical but still replaceable). In all likelyhood, it could eventually replace gas and oil as well.

the government could easily grow their own marijuana, tax it, and sell to consumers while at the same time outlawing the cultivation of it. It has the potential to produce huge profits.

Who knows why it's still illegal *shrug*
