lets see where this gets me

okay, so I had a thought...keep in mind this is only my opinion, I have no intention to act on any of this.

why is saddam hussein still alive? they caught him, right? why didn't that one guy, that soldier who opened up the hole, just riddle him with bullets for what he'd done to his country? hes pretty much gotten away with it, because everybody has been treating him decently to avoid international human rights issues...even though he may get the death sentence, right now he's reading poetry in his jail cell! I don't think that's really fitting for somebody who has commited the atrocities he's responsible for...what do you all think?

would this world be a better place if world leaders were simply executed on the spot for what they've done? notice I said 'world leaders'...NOT just saddam. because guaranteed, there are people, in any country, who feel this strongly about their 'democratically elected' leaders...should they be held accountable in a swift, violent manner?

Personally, I think the world would be a better place if a few selected individuals weren't in it...I'm not going to name any names, but there are those in power who are there simply FOR the power. they line their pockets with money, and rely on global disasters to keep the populace distracted while they escape...I say if they screw up royally, they die too. or at the very least, deported. to the moon.

Why isn't he dead? Politics. If we just executed him right off the bat, all sorts of people would shit a brick. also, it is understood that he's gonna get it, but we want it to look like the Iraqi people get to take care of him.

And think about it, if we just shot him on the spot with no trial, isn't that sinking to his level just a little?

    hey

I'm probably going to get alot of shit for saying this, but its my opinion, which is just as valid as everyone elses so i'll say it anyway..

Dr Gonzo, i disagree with you... i agree, Saddam Hussein is a scumbag, the lowest of the low.. that kind of person cannot be described with mere words.. BUT, im totally, %100 against the Death Penalty for any reason. I dont believe anyone, and i mean ANYONE, has the right to take another persons life, unless their life is DIRECTLY in danger from that person, say in self defence or if that person is putting you or anyone else in direct mortal danger. I would kill someone if i had to, if it was me or them, but thats it. You'll never hear me say i wish somebody was killed or executed. I mean, who decides who should be executed? If we decide, then we decide based on our own code of ethic, our own morals, but whos to say we're right? Dont get me wrong, im not defending Saddam at all, i just dont think anyone should ever be executed. One of the arguements for the death penalty goes like this: If in America, the death penalty was abolished, then all the people on Death Row would have to spend the rest of their lives in jail.. keeping someone in jail costs money, it costs the government money, which in turn costs the tax payer, me and you, money. i personally dont believe money ios a factor when talking about a persons life, so that arguement isnt valid.. anyway, im getting off the subject... all i wanted to say, was yes i hate saddam hussein as much as the next guy, but i dont think he, or anyone else, should be executed..

    peace

Edit: I realise, that being from Jersey in the UK, i dont have friends, family, or people near me that have died fighting against Saddam, so my life hasnt been affected by him as it has for alot of people. I apologise ive i offended anyone, and i can see how alot of people wish Saddam to be dead, its perfectly understandable, i just dont wish it myself

Actually, in the us, it costs us more on average to execute most people than it would to keep them in prison for life, due to appeals. I don't think that someone should be executed unless they are guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt, and while this is usually not the case, even though the standard is beyond reasonable doubt, that is the case with Saddam Hussien.

I think the purpose of the death penalty is not really in the punishment of the gulty, but the appeasement of the victims...so, i dunno...
