    delay in flowering

    Hi people,
i'm currently growing grapefruit x nex haze and wwxbb from female seeds in bubbler systems with HID. My grapefruitxnev haze started to flower 2 weeks after the switch to 12/12. My wwxbb where in the same bucket before 12/12. When i put them into the flower room, i had to tear down parts of the root system and some plants suffered root rot ( my previous post ). Now they have recovered BUT 2 of them are only now showing some signs of flowers ( 4 weeks of 12/12 ) and they are not those who most suffered root rot. So, my question is : what can delay flowers developpement and will the delayed plants make less buds than the others or is it a general delay ( maybe 2 weeks more untill harvest )????
    Thanks for answers

    1) Light leaks can delay the onset of flowering
    2) Stress can delay flowering
    3) Flowering can also be strain dependant - some strains flower quicker than others
    4) Dont worry about it, it'll probably finish later than the others though

    delay in flowering

I think that in that case it's due to the PH stress. These last days it was difficult to get the good PH. Always too high although added CO2. So i tried to lower it with acid. BUT i noticed that the PH was always the same, 6.3 - 6.5 before or after acid. My PH meter was dirty, with some algae. I checked the rez PH with reactive drops, it was 4! So now i fixed the water PH and the PH meter and i hope they will recover. In fact they had been in a too low PH for 1 week, do you think it will hurt definitly ?

You know low pH can cause male flowers...so be wary of hermie woman!

The root episode would have obviously caused a delay in growth...

But also your slow plants might be younger?

and ofcourse the question of photoperiod! Different strains require slightly different dark cycle depending on which degree of lattitude / how far from the equator the plants genetics originated from.

Are they all the same age ?

Yes the slowest ones are the youngest. 2 weeks difference. But now the PH is stabilized and every thing should be OK. I look for the male balls but for the moment no balls. Hope there won't. I don't know about the strains genetics but for the moment the best strain ( for the yield and quick growth ) i ever grew is skunk special from female seeds. That's why, after several tries, i'm going to purchase SS beans again.

The plant on the left is from the same packet of skunk#1 seeds as the plant on the right.........But the plant on the left is a few weeks older than the plant on the right!

The plant on the left is flowering prefusley compared to the other plant!...coz it's more mature!

The plant on the right also produced male balls...I think it is because it was a few weeks to young to be flowered...They were both flowered under 12/12 two weeks ago!

Lesson I've learned...Don't flower plant's that are too young!

stress can delay...LIFE in general, as your plant knows it...
when you cut-up roots, It was as if you chopped off your toes. Now how much flowering; Do you think you would do, under the circumstances? lmao.lw

Yes LW, i agree. And i discovered a new reason that explains the low growth rate these last days. Yesturday, when i entered my grow room, i noticed that the temp was quite cool. It's generally 28° celcius, it was 22. And i was not dazzled as usaual by my 600 HPS. I was stuck, thinking, and the bulb swithed off ! Strange ! As i had put a 150 W MH and a 20 w CFL to cover more the area, i was not in the black, and the bulb switched on, and so on. The bulb is quite dead. I've got to change it, anyway. So i put a 250 w and a 400 w HPS to fix the problem and i saw that only the normal 400 w grow lux HPS was giving more light than my 600W special HPS. So i've got 2 questions :

1/ Why is my bulb already dead ? I used it far less time than the warranty tells.

2/ How long time has the bulb been giving few lumens, and what is the consequences on the yield and the finish time ?

    Anybody knows ?

1st, up above...you mentioned maybe you flowered too early.ennttt, wrong answer, no such thing as to early to 12/12...In equatorial regions, if you grow outside, your photoperiods go from 13/11-11/13. Some growers never veg there clones, especially if they have height limitations.

I think it is a better to veg to build a strong root system.
I'll let you know as I am in the middle of a 2 week root-clones...1 week 15/9 veg and start week 3f at 12/12.
    Height is almost 2 feet...starting wk6f

keep babying them...you will still get some good smoke.
anytime you stress them like you did you will lose delay finish and lose some yield...don't worry though, the worst is over. Just take care of them from here on out. lw
