If the pot is to big for the plant it will be difficult for the bottom to dry out which can lead to ph problems and yellowing of the plants. There are many different stlyes to grow with. How big or small do you want the plants to finish? Basically I say under a foot one gallon. Some people use smaller then that. I would say get a solid root structure to keep the plants from stretching first but it all depends on different variables. Can I ask what you are working with and your goals. I think you are refering to soil but well tell me more.

you need to start with a really small pot like a plastic cup or cut off 2 liter bottle. then as the plant grows you need to transplant into a larger pot, time and time again, using anywhere 3 to maybe 5 different sizes, this will help with the root mass and create a healthier plant, you just have to be careful not to strees the plant to much when transplanting them! g-luck

Depends on how many transplants you would like to do... 2 or 3...

I would say throw the little guys in 8" pots at the start and transplant to 3gal or 5gal for flower... good luck man...

farfred or promix found at your local nursery. Call farfred at 1800peatmoss for the local distributer. I think they only sell bail but they are cheap for what you get say 25 bucks.

In that case, use 10" pots at the start, and 5gal for flower. Also just a note to keep the cfls in there for flower as well, it will help make the buds more dense and abundant. Cant wait to see the grow. Best of Luck...

Also, Use Shultz potting soil and mix in 35% Shultz Perlite... I use the continuous feeding shultz... i mean it has nutrients in it, but barely really... and my plants are nice and healthy... Home Depot has all the above. Later on...

I like those square pots (bghydro.com has some), but they're 2 gallons and 4 gallons. This time, I'm going to try the 2 gallons all the way through flower and see what happens. I just culled a male that was decent-sized after 4 weeks in veg, and it hadn't used even half of the 2 gallon pot with its roots. Maybe a third of it, or a bit less. Next cycle after this one I'll try the 4 gallon size and see if there's much difference. I'm betting the only significant difference is that I'll have to water a bit more often with the 2 gallon pots, especially toward the end of flower. I have some round 5-gallon pots too, but they don't fit as well into my flower cabinet so I'm not going to bother with those.
