Like I said, I don't care what you say ALCOHOL tastes gross. Yeah certain beers might taste decent, but the actual alcohol is gross. Why do you think all hard liquor is so gross? Cause it has a lot of alcohol in it. I'll admit, I test-tasted guiness before and found that pretty neat tasting. But all in all, I still say people only drink alcoholic beverages to get buzzed or drunk.

The reason it 'loosens up social situations' is cause when you're drunk then a lot of people will become talkative and more outgoing, which isn't always a good thing.
